The Nancy Drew Series was completely re-written in the 1960's. In many cases the vocabulary was watered down to an easy-reader and
sometimes the entire stories were changed. Written by Carolyn Keene- pseudonym of Edward Stratemeyer. Stratemeyer started the series by
sending outlines to a young ghostwriter from Iowa, Mildred Wirt in 1929, who completed the first three volumes. In 1930, Stratemeyer died and his daughter Harriet took over the company and authored the remaining titles with the same pseudonym her father started -- Carolyn Keene.
