How to Stop Spam

Report Spam and Porn Emails!

Why Me? What did I do? How can I stop it?

#1 Rule - DO NOT be deceived by the so called-"hit reply," "remove me," "unsubscribe," etc. from your mailing list as a source of handling the situation. This tactic validates your email address for the senders. This will generate even more unwanted emails to you. In doing so you have just let the spammers know that your email address is a good one and even if for some reason they do stop sending you spam from one particular email location, they can send you more from another location and also sell your email address as a proven valid address. If you are not going to report the spammers it is far better that you simply delete the offense and do nothing.

It is another common deception that one must have traveled to a related site to receive such unwanted emails. This is true in some ways. When you visit websites, most webmasters do have access to those that visit their website and can create and sell your information without your permission. Anytime you register and provide any personal information about you on the internet, be advised you may receive solicitation from similar companies as those you have registered and ask for information from, or those companies from which you have placed orders with. The selling of email addresses, mailing addresses and other personal information is not only common, but getting far out of hand, especially on the internet, where congress still debates about the restrictions that are sorely needed.

A Short Testimony:

I have been online now for about eight or more years. I rarely "surf", never join chat rooms and only joined a couple e-loop groups, a couple years back, that were for a short, limited time. ---Which by the way, have caused no related problems with spam. We operate a business via the web and it's not that time will allow such a waste of our time as our priorities are to address the needs of our customers while here.

Two porn type emails were received about a year ago on our personal server. They were reported and we've not experienced a problem since. However, recently, through our free "juno" email, that we use for business purposes, we have received an overwhelming amount of very, very, nasty porn emails. I am the only one in our family that not only has the password for internet access, but I am the only one that takes the time to sit at the computer.

It is usually NOT your fault and it doesn't necessarily mean that someone has used your computer and tapped into immoral websites that you are receiving porn and other trashy type emails. After visiting only a few herb and vitamin websites, I immediately noticed, about once a week, we started receiving solicitations to buy a natural "viagra." The problem seemed to get worse from there and it could be that that's where my email address was first recognized, sold and distributed. Even though I did NOT provide any information.

STEP #1
Forward To Report the offending email, like you are about to send it somewhere to someone. You should also then see where it is coming from. It will show the server they are using and almost ALL servers want to hear and stop abuse of any kind. It is necessary to change your email options to "show all headers" to view the full information and source of where it's coming from.

The Bad News:
Many spammers know how to encode and protect their originating email addresses.... BUT--- Leave that to the servers to decipher and forward the trash to anything that looks like a server of any kind!

The offending email must be forwarded in its entirety, along with the subject line and full headers. (the headers usually appears automatically when you forward an email). *** PLEASE see note below about forwarding ANY Emails period --- to relatives, friends, etc..

The action of course, is to forward the email to the host, server/company that gives or provides the spammers with their email account. This is the best way that revokes their right to have an account with that company, because it violates the company's abuse policy and causes them to lose their email completely! --- They usually get only ONE warning! If it is porn, they usually lose it immediately.

After you have clicked on forward and the full header information is showing, look for the ending dot com. Copy/paste any or several of the addresses below to send in your forwarded email to report them. You can use the Cc: option with a comma to copy/paste several of the reporting email addresses below.

LOOK FOR the ending (server) dot com, it could be a dot edu site (which educational institutions would LOVE to hear abuse on their system), it could be a dot org... organization or dot net, or from another country.. ca.net, ca.org, uk.com, .cc, etc.

Forwards and Mailing Lists:
The worst thing you can do to any of your friends or anyone listed in your personal address book is to forward them an email. IF you receive a poem, graphic, announcement or something encouraging that you want to share, Copy and Paste the email into a separate "new" email and send to them! USE your blind cc option! Read your email directions on how to do that with your email software! Be respectful to your friends! (if you need instruction on how to copy/paste please email and ask. We are glad to serve you). What happens on forwards that you send to those in your address book is that it generates a huge mailing list for all those that receive it and will receive it, to be able to view it and have access to it, when it is forwarded again and again. So you may trust all those in "your" address book. Would you trust the people they send it to and then those people send it to say from the fifth or so person down the list?

Emails get forwarded all over the world! Some people have NO idea what they are doing and should turn their "email header option" open that they may see the list of, many times complete names with email addresses on the email- forwards that they are sending out freely.

If you are on a mailing list, newsletter list, or something of that sort and you see "undisclosed recipients" in the header, then you can be safe and know that the owner of the list knows how to protect you and is doing so. If not, and you see a huge list of other people's emails, you may share this article with them, that they may adjust their settings for your security and the security of everyone on their list.

Some emails you report by forwarding will grant you a response that it has been received and they will investigate. Some do not report back to you when they are caught. We received the following response from an email which we noticed "excite.com" in the header and this response was received about 2 weeks after reporting.

Hello, We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused by the email which you have received. It has been determined that the account mentioned was in violation of our 'Terms of service' and we have therefore deactivated it. If you receive any further notices from this address, it will be a forged one. Excite does not condone the abuse of its system and consider it grounds for deactivation. If you receive any further mailings, please forward those to:

abuse.support@excitecorp.com

Praise God! It is worth the time to show all headers and forward the spam to report them! Laws and regulations regarding the internet are in the works. These servers do keep records and it is possible that certain individuals could be black-listed.

Education regarding spam, abusive and porn emails is worth your time to learn about.
