Fairy Tales for Christians?

Webster's dictionary defines fairy tales as stories about fairies, giants, magical deeds, or any untrue story or a lie. Webster's further explains that fairies were suppose to have magic powers that look like little people with wings. Amazingly, the next major entry is the word faith.

When our children were young we immediately realized there was a problem with this in the content of what they were saying, starting with baby's cradle falling out of the treetops. The Three Little Pigs, The Three Bears and others may appear sweet and cute, but what are they actually teaching our children's tender hearts? Would anyone, even more so a Christian, want to plant, even subtle seeds of fear or insecurity in their babies? Would we want to plant doubt or unbelief in our Savior? Would we want to promote magic and mystical powers to teach the power of God?

Your answers to these questions may depend on your personal convictions in how you choose to raise your children or at what level of a personal relationship with the Lord that you want your children to have. We desired to raise our children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord (Eph. 6:4) to the best of our ability and convictions regardless of how we were taught. We wanted the peace of God that passes all understanding to keep their little hearts and minds. (Phil 4:7). The Bible tells us to cast down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God and to bring into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ. (2Cor. 10:5) If you agree and want Godly tales and nursery rhymes for your little ones, please proceed to our online catalog. We carry Christian Mother Goose, by Marjorie Decker, as a replacement for secular fairy tales.

IF nothing else, please carefully examine the words of these stories. We pray you will consider the matter and read our other articles on the power of words, Narnia's deception by storm and how to teach Santa Claus, Halloween and Walking in Truth--- for your children's sake, that they may have the chance to walk in the power and glory of God in a better light and deeper understanding than we had as children, knowing God is very much pleased with your decision to "go against the flow" by not allowing anti-Christian material in your home. We should all raise our standards. Our article, "Choosing Books Wisely" by Roy J. Cook, is a list or filter and can be used as a great standard or starting point in your selections.

If this article, or any other resources on our website have been helpful to you please consider a contribution that we may continue in our efforts to serve.
