Born Again?

What does that mean? What does the Bible say?

Search & Ministry Tools Below -- recently updated!

A great ruler of the Jews named Nicodemus came to Jesus in the night asking him questions. Jesus told him "... Except a man be born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of Heaven." (John 3:3) Jesus goes on to say much more and also, "Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again." (v7).

Nowhere else in the Bible does Jesus makes such a definite statement that "ye must" concerning salvation. It is not written anywhere that we must be baptized as a baby, nor was it a custom, and it is not mentioned. People baptize babies, because of the teachings of man, but it is not Biblical. Although baptism of water, of fire and baptism of the spirit is in there, those verses do not include statements from Jesus that must be done in order to see the Kingdom of Heaven. Not that the other baptisms of fire and water are not important.

I learned a long time ago and I am still learning that if I have to change what I have been taught or change what I believe because I cannot find it in the Bible, then that is what I have done and must continue to do. Complete doctrines and religions have been established by man's teachings alone, many of which contradict the Bible. The result is many, good, wonderful people remain confused and the division between different faiths is made worse. If we truly want to know the Lord, to know that we are going to Heaven, to experience Heaven here on earth, walk in His presence, hear His voice. YES! even Hear his voice.  In John 10:27, Jesus said, "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me"  Then we must judge and measure all things by His word, rather than what we "think" we believe and what we have been taught.

The experience of being born again is simple. The experience is also called being saved or converted.  Some do not call it anything, but they know that they know, they are different and know something has happened to them beyond themselves. According to the Bible, they have been transformed into another species of beings that never existed before His work on the cross. We become new creatures. The real us, our spirit, is born. The real us and who we see in the natural realm is not really who we are. We are seeing merely the house (our body) in which our new man lives.

When one prays, believing in their heart that God raised Jesus from the dead and receiving forgiveness of their sins, then they shall be saved. (Roman 10:9) Receiving Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, receiving His work on the cross in a very personal way, is an experience, not just a confession. It is believing in your heart and confessing Jesus as the Christ and Lord over your life. It is actually an act of surrender because we realize it is something we cannot earn, nor do we deserve eternal life that He gives us freely and paid for us to have. He paid for it dearly, by giving His life as a ransom, a payment for us.

We are welcomed into the family of God. All the guilt, condemnation and usually sickness and deliverance occurs as well. Our names are then written in the Lamb's Book of Life, and we become believers, often called, born-again believers.

This new birth experience is like a caterpillar turning into a butterfly. Salvation is a process. An error often taught in most churches is confusing repentance with forgiveness of sins. Our sins have been paid for, regardless if we ask for forgiveness or not. Jesus died for not only our sins, but for the sins of the world, not just a select few or a select few sins.(1 John 2:2)

Repentance means changing your mind or turning around. Repentance is a life style as we continue to grow up and into our new man. We start to learn who we are in Christ and walk out our new identity. The things of this world and, especially sin no longer is attractive to us. Some things change suddenly and some things change gradually.

We are changing not for salvation, but rather because we have received salvation. It is a result of the inner working of the power of the Holy Spirit within us. The gospel (which means good news) is that there is no other way we must be saved except through the Lord Jesus Christ and receiving His work for us on the cross. We cannot earn salvation by our works, or obedience to the law, or obeying the ten commandments, or paying pentance. The Scriptures are very clear.

God's covenant with Adam, Job, Abraham, David, and Moses were very different than the covenant we have with God today. It is not unlike a lease on rental property. The old lease is replaced with the new. The old lease has been fulfilled and it is now void, replaced with the New Covenant.(Hebrews 8:13)

Romans 10:9-10.  That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Rev. 3:5 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.

John 14:13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

Sample Prayer:

Dear Jesus,
I believe that you died for me and rose again on the third day. I confess I am a sinner. Please forgive me of all my sins. Please come into my heart now that I may receive your forgiveness and eternal life. I confess and receive you as my Lord and Savior and I thank you that my name is now in the Lamb's book of Life and that I am Born Again!
In Jesus Name I pray.
AMEN (So be it)

We hope that you prayed that prayer aloud and experienced that wonderful blessing in your heart! Share your confession to a family member or friend that Jesus is the Lord of your life. Jesus is the Savior of the world, regardless if one confesses or chooses to believe it or not.

This transformation of our spirit, in our hearts causes us to be in the family of God and it is similar to a child who would say, my daddy is my daddy. Not because you own him or have power over him, but now it is a personal relationship, as that would be between a father and his child.

Regardless of which church you attend or what denomination you'd like to attend, it is also important to ask the Lord of his direction and will for your life. Most importantly, He will lead you to the church that is best for you and your family. You will feel His peace and you will know by the Spirit (in your heart), the right church for you that will best help you grow stronger and learn more of Him, His word and who you are now.

Pray for wisdom each time you read the Bible. We need to read it daily, for the renewing of our mind to continue the transformation process. For Bible reading, we suggest you begin with the book of John, then Matthew, Mark and Luke, followed by the rest of the New Testament.

We believe you will find the right fellowship of people, especially since it is very hard to find a good church that is not laced with showy religion and traditions of men that have nothing to do with the love and the amazing grace of God. You are a member of His body, regardless of which church you attend or if you do not attend. There are great live streaming churches that do not fall for a form of godliness and deny the power,(2 Timothy 3:5), from such turn away. There are some that will come to you in demonstration of the Spirit and of power. (1 Corinthians 2:4) The next step is receiving the power of the Holy Spirit, or to be baptized in the Holy Spirit, so you do want to find one that knows what the Bible says about that and using your prayer language.

Other denominations have trouble understanding why the statement, "I confess and receive you as my Lord and Savior", is used. For it is true, Jesus is Lord and Savior, of the world, regardless if anyone believes or confesses this aloud or not. It does not change the fact either way. However, confessing and accepting Jesus as your Lord and Savior declares that you receive his redemptive work on the cross for you, in a personal way and that you declare Him, and receive Him as Lord over your life ".. with the mouth, confession is made unto salvation." (Roman 10:10) For the Bible tells us that satan is the god of this world and has blinded the eyes of them that are lost.(not saved, born-again)

Enjoy your new life now and all that God has for you. He has awesome things in store for you!

Abundant Blessings!
