RC - A2 Printing Help

A valuable resource for printing books from CDs to save ink and paper by reducing the wastes such as white/blank and in the margins is now available! This free software also creates booklets and makes Ebooks and books on CD much more manageable and editable. It can be used for pdf, txt and image files. This free software is included on our books on CD.

Clicking the above link will open a separate browser that you can return to this page. But before you retrieve your free version of FinePrint, please read the following carefully:

When you go to FinePrint, scroll down to the third download button, (just beneath the 2.8mb at the Fineprint logo). It is a small file and even with dial-up service, it should load quickly. It is free, with no limitations for use. If you decide to purchase the software, it will remove the small print that appears on your printings.

As with any files you download from the internet, it is advisable to create a folder on your desktop with the title "downloads", where you can select save to folder, select and save it there and not run the software right after it is downloaded. Some have trouble finding where their computer placed the file. If you have trouble, you can easily uninstall the program and reinstall it again from your download folder where it remains until you delete it. With most computers, you right click your mouse on your desktop and choose "new" and just name your folder and hit enter. Once you have chosen to download files to this folder, the prompt will automatically open that folder selection for you on your next download.

When you get offline or close out everything and are ready to work with Fineprint, double click the file ending with .exe It will then automatically install quickly. Your first decision is to choose Fineprint as your default printer. Choosing this option is advisable because it will take you through the directions to setup a lot easier. (You can change back to your regular default later, or else when printing something other than your books, choose the right printer when your print window opens)

Once you've chosen Fineprint as your default printer you will be prompted through a series of questions to answer for your particular printer. This helps Fineprint work correctly for your printer, whether it is duplex or not. It will give you the directions of how to print more than one page of each book on both sides of your paper. You are ready to go! ---- Fineprint has been updated. Clicking on the "settings" tab at the top of the fineprint page and checking the correct box for how you flip your paper to print on the backside, appears to be much easier than before and the only thing necessary to set it up.

When you go to other programs (Word, Excel, etc) the default may changes itself and when you get back into an A2 or RC book, or any book in pdf or txt file, you will have to choose fineprint again from your printer options window after you've clicked "print". Fineprint may also work on other applications not included. When the Fineprint window appears you choose the options you wish. Anytime your change or your default printer has changed, when you hit print, Take notice of which printer is listed in the top window section. select Fineprint at that printer window and your Fineprint preview window will appear again.

Other Helpful tips from Fineprint Users:
You can use the booklet setting in the upper left corner to make it fold and book-like. I also wouldn't do more than five pages (that translates into 20 book pages for the smaller books) at a time because they stick out too far when you fold them over if you do more. Fan your paper or else print only a few at a time if your printer sends blank sheets now and then. If you are using booklet you also don't have to worry about specifying a page size.

If you change or add a printer, you will want to re-run the fineprint wizard to calibrate to the new printer. To do this:
Open a book and select print->fineprint to configure the book to the software. Program (what you normally do to use the program), then click on the OPTIONS button above the HELP button at the bottom of the screen where the PRINT tool bar is, then click the WIZARD button at the bottom of THAT screen.
